“Endings are better than beginnings. Sticking to it is better than standing out.” Ecclesiastes 7:8- The Message
Religious position can be attained, but only God and Him alone grants spiritual authority. In every single generation, God’s called are given the opportunity to respond and are equipped by God Himself to do the job. Most people start with a bang, but fizzle out before it is all over- Check history, that’s a fact!
The Bible records life after life of people called AND equipped for service, but never quite accomplished the assignment. The reason? Their anointing wasn’t balanced with godly character. Author/Singer, Judy Jacob says,“Anointing and calling will take you places, but only godly character will keep you there.” The difference between finishing well as opposed to not finishing well is simply a character issue. It’s the pressures of life and ministry that will eventually reveal the true nature of our hearts. Without ongoing transformation, we may look good on the outside, but what is going on in the inside will eventually be revealed.
In concert, Guy Penrod made a statement that was very close to this: “One of the biggest lies of Satan is that he wants you to think you have plenty of time.” If the end of your ministry came today, would God say you finished well? Today is a new day, therefore we should forget the past and press toward our high calling. It is possible to finish well-with God’s help all things are possible! If David got up, dusted off and finished well, so can I and so can you.
It is the purpose of The Finishing Well to bring encouragement to those who are serving in ministry to finish well.
